| | Books For Africa | | Six Cents Initiative | |
| | Books for Africa (www.booksforafrica.org) is an organization that collects new and used textbooks to send over to Africa in an effort to promote literacy in the continent. Our club works with their service partner, Better World Books (www.betterworldbooks.com), by collecting textbooks on campus. We pack the books into smaller boxes, pile them onto pallets, and ship them to Better World Books, where they send it off to Africa. | |
Six Cents Initiative is a project created by CKI where we are partnered with UNICEF (www.unicef.org) to raise funds to ameliorate the drinking water conditions in Africa. Every 6 cents raised is enough to buy a dehydration pack. UNICEF hopes to create long-term solutions by making wells, filters, and family packs, along with sanitation facilities. CKI is hoping to raise $500,000 for the cause. | |

Our Current Projects

| | Focusing on the Future: Children Open a Book. Show them the World. | | UMREG | |
| | These days, children are more involved with video games and television more than ever. Thus, it is the goal of CKI to implement ways to get children involved in other activities, such as after school programs and provide mentoring to students in need. Currently, UMCKI does not have a project in place, but are discussing the possibility of after school programs. | | We currently aid UMREG (www.UMREG.org), a service organization on campus, to sort out their recycling bins by plastic numbers. We also aid in retrieving full bins and replacing them with new ones, as well as washing the bins.
We did this project last year for a number of weeks, and have thoroughly enjoyed our fellowship time.
